Dental sealants are a thin plastic coating that is applied to the chewing surfaces of molar teeth to protect against tooth decay and cavities. Sealants protect these vulnerable areas from tooth decay by “sealing out” plaque and food.
Applying sealants is a simple and painless process. Sealants are generally places on the tooth in liquid form and then cured either chemically or with light activation. Once completed, sealants can protect teeth from decay for up to 10 years. Sealants are also easy to replace, and your dentist can replace sealants as necessary.
